The Bar Harbor Congregational Church, UCC, has an active music program throughout the year. The Adult Choir sings at Sunday services except during the summer months during which they take a well-deserved break. Guest artists provide music during these summer months and on Liturgical holidays. The church music program also sponsors a Christmas Festival each year.
Music outreach in the community includes Christmas caroling on the Town Green and at the Sonogee Rehabilitation and Living Center. For the last several years, a member of the Adult Choir has taken the church’s set of Malmark choir chimes to the Straus Adult Day Center and the Birch Bay Village to lead monthly singing and chiming sessions of hymns, old favorites, Christmas, and patriotic music.
Our music program is growing! Recently, a new collection of quality world percussion instruments for children and adults was purchased with a generous memorial gift to honor Ginny Blaney. In the past year, there have been opportunities for youth and other members of the congregation to sing with the adult choir. Members of the congregation are encouraged to make suggestions of favorite hymns and to give feedback to and share ideas with Robin Ann Barron (Music Director) or any member of the Music Committee or Adult Choir. The church’s music library was recently catalogued. Speak to Robin if you’d like to look through the catalogue to identify a favorite anthem you’d like to hear. Better yet, consider joining the Adult Choir. We rehearse on Sunday mornings at 8:45 – 9:30 AM and on Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30 PM.
The music program is overseen by the Music Committee and by Robin Ann Barron, Music Director. The committee meets quarterly, and coordinates with other church committees to plan for special music.
